I may have latched onto the secret of the credit crunch at an innocent Christmas lunch at Paesano's.

One member of our tight-knit group and his wife had a family crisis recently. (I'll call them George and Sally , not their real names).

Their son had big problems two years back. Sally was so devastated, she sought professional therapy and began taking Prozac. It helped.

At lunch George announced happily that their son is back to normal, and doing fine.

``Sally said goodbye to her therapist,'' George said.

``I suggested she could go off Prozac, but she doesn't want to.''

``She says,'' (here's the BIG discovery) ``when she takes it, she doesn't feel guilty about spending a lot of money shopping.''

Next Christmas, look for introductory Prozac-paks in the mail with free credit cards . . . and stand back at the mall!

Familiar places

Big news from Hollywood - Jim Robinson , S.A.-born director of the new film ``Still Breathing'' with the breathtaking Brendan Fraser and Joanna Going , called to say it hit big in Tinseltown.

After the film's acquisition premiere last Wednesday, Robinson immediately sold Euro-rights. This week, he said he's entertaining offers from several major studios.

One of the major elements in the movie's appeal is the work of Jim's wife, Denice Pizzini , an eighth-generation S.A. gal whose art direction in ``Like Water for Chocolate'' won international awards.

Another is the Jim Cullum Jazz Band, with a prominent role in a party scene playing brilliant bassist Don Mopsick 's original tune ``Fantasy.''

Music maven Mopsick tells me that another tune in the show, ``Alberta,'' is an oldie sung by the late Lloyd Glen , an S.A. piano player and arranger from the '30s and '40s.

Get back, Hollywood! S.A. is hot!

Gruene Christmas

Christmas Day, John Travolta 's much-ballyhooed new movie `` Michael '' opens in S.A.

Meanwhile, movie-goers are getting a Gruene Christmas in the previews. About half the preview scenes were shot last March in Pat Molak 's historic Gruene Hall.

``We're really excited that one of the world's most famous dancers graces Gruene Hall's old dance floor,'' Molak says.

Gruene is a far cry from Grease. Check it out.

Bingle jells?

At a sumptuous feast before the fabulous ``Holiday Saxes'' at the Guadalupe Theater Sunday night, bilingual education expert Sulema Sanchez described a linguistic contortion even her training couldn't unscramble.

``I was in Galveston, and a taxi driver told me to be sure to see Dixon On A String,'' she said.

``I kept asking about it, and somebody finally told me he meant Galveston's wonderful holiday fest, `Dickens on the Strand.''

Dixon on a String has a nice ring, though, doesn't it?
