Inquest rules suicide over bridge death

Thursday, 26 November 2009

A FACTORY worker leapt to her death from a Southend footbridge, an inquest heard.

Patricia Prest, of Station Avenue, Southend, took her life on Friday, June 26, when she jumped from the bridge above Queensway at around 11am.

Coroner Dr Peter Dean said at Southend Courthouse on Thursday there were a large number of people in the area when the 62-year-old jumped.

Patricia, who was born in Hackney, suffered fatal head injuries.

Paramedics carried out CPR, but she was confirmed dead at Southend Hospital.

Officers, who gained access to the victim’s house, found a note saying she was planning on take her life alongside medication for depression.

Dr Dean, who read out that Mrs Prest had tried on numerous occasions to kill herself, recorded a verdict of suicide.
