A FELIXSTOWE jogger was punched and kicked by a complete stranger who then seriously injured another man he did not know.

Matthew Claxton had binged on a cocktail of alcohol and anti depressants before he beat up two complete strangers in unprovoked attacks, Ipswich Crown Court heard.

At 7am on November 15 Christopher Morton had been jogging in Felixstowe when Claxton approached him and called him “a freak”.

The 23-year-old then punched him twice in the face and kicked him before Mr Morton ran off.

Mr Morton felt blood pouring from his nose and also suffered a split lip and a 10-inch graze on his side.

Two hours later Claxton went up to Michael Wayman shouted at him and punched him in the face two or three times.

Mr Wayman suffered a cut near his left eye which required 11 stitches.

Claxton, of Cornwell Road, Felixstowe, pleaded guilty to causing common assault and actual bodily harm.

Roger Thomson, mitigating, said these were “very nasty unprovoked attacks” but added that his client had admitted his guilt and expressed his remorse as soon as he was arrested.

Mr Thompson said: “At the time he was stressed because of family issues, he had been drinking all night and was on anti depressants.”

He added that Claxton had not committed any violent crimes for four years and was in full-time work for a transport company.

Judge Roderick Newton said: “It seems to me you are a danger to people going about their everyday business. You need to be taught a lesson and kept out of circulation for a while.”

Claxton was jailed for a total of 12 months.
