COWETA COUNTY, Ga. - A truck driver is under arrest for hitting a police officer's car on the side on Interstate 85 in Coweta County Wednesday morning.

Coweta sheriff's deputy Jeff Bugg had pulled over a car for speeding on Interstate 85.

With his patrol car camera running, he approached the car's passenger side.

That's when a tractor-trailer sped by, sideswiping both parked cars.

The impact pushed the deputy into a ditch, injuring his knee.

The motorist wasn't hurt.

Authorities later found Derossett and his truck at a stop on Exit 41.

The driver of the truck -- Michael Derossett -- faces DUI and leaving the scene of an accident. Investigators said the driver was on pains pills and the driver told officers he was taking antidepressants.

Coweta County is one of few departments that handles traffic stops on the passenger side of the vehicle. That policy may have saved the officer's life.
