Depressed Carshalton beauty therapist hanged herself

9:33am Thursday 26th May 2011
A beauty therapist who struggled with depression hanged herself at the home she shared with her partner, an inquest heard.

Jasmine Cosgrove was discovered by her boyfriend, David, at their home in Park Hill, Carshalton, on November 25, 2010.

The 22-year-old known as Jas, was diagnosed with depression in 2003. She was prescribed venlafaxine after other anti-depressants failed to help her.

Croydon Coroners Court heard that on October 22, 2010, Miss Cosgrove presented herself at St Helier hospital accident and emergency unit, where she admitted overdosing on drugs.

Junior psychiatrist Dr Michael Rutherford told the court: “She said she hoped she would fall asleep and not wake up and was disappointed when she did.”

The court heard the next day, Miss Cosgrove attempted suicide again, by overdosing on painkillers.

She told doctors her relationship with her boyfriend had recently ended, which was contributing to her low mood.

Miss Cosgrove did not want to stay in hospital and agreed to temporarily move in with her mother.

Recording a verdict of suicide, Coroner Dr Roy Palmer said: “She made threats before, but used an entirely different method, which makes me think she intended to die that day.

"On the evidence, I have to conclude she killed herself.”
