MANSFIELD -- A 23-year-old woman accused of the aggravated murder of her 11-month-old daughter waived her preliminary hearing Thursday afternoon.

Cynthia L. Redman, of 75 Bartley Ave., will remain in jail on a $500,000 cash bond.
Madison M. Redman died May 22 at Akron Children's Hospital from an overdose of prescription medication. Police said Madison ingested anti-depressants.

Local media and a Cleveland TV station were in Mansfield Municipal Judge Jeff Payton's courtroom for the hearing. Assistant Prosecutor John Boyd and lead investigator Mansfield police Detective Jeff Shook were there, as was defense attorney Terry Hitchman, who decided to waive the hearing.

The purpose of a preliminary hearing is for a judge to determine if there is enough evidence in a case to send it to the grand jury. Because Redman waived the hearing, her case will be considered by the next session of the Richland County grand jury.
