A MAN being treated for depression was found by his wife hanging in their hallway, a Flint inquest heard.

Brynley Jones, 58, of Orchard View, Gresford, near Wrexham, started suffering with depression after a fall from step ladders at work.

His physical injuries were minor but it effected him “quite radically.”

Although only a social drinker he began drinking more heavily and took medication for his depression, said north-east Wales coroner John Hughes.

Mr Hughes said a note found by police clearly showed Mr Jones intended to take his own life and he recorded a verdict of suicide.

Mrs Judith Jones said her husband had worked for the railways, Firestone, Fibreglass, Tetrapak and other companies before becoming a lab technician at CP Pharmaceuticals in Wrexham in 1992.

He was made redundant in August 2007.

The couple, married in 1969, have two children.

She said on September 30 last year she left the house and returned in the evening to find it in darkness.

“As I looked into the hallway, the street light was on, and I could see the shape of Brynley standing there. Then I noticed a rope around his neck,” she said in a statement.

She left the house in “turmoil” to get neighbour Phil Bowen who returned to find Mr Jones hanging by a rope attached to the bannister.

Pathologist Dr Pauline Dowling said the cause of death was hanging.
