Bail was set at $100,000 Wednesday for a Layton man being held in the investigation of the Tuesday killings of his wife and daughter. 2nd Circuit Court Judge S. Mark Johnson ordered the bond for Ronald Cunningham, 70, in a probable cause hearing.

Cunningham was expected to return to circuit court Thursday afternoon where formal charges will be filed in the deaths of his wife Dorothy, 69, and daughter Janet, 43. Cunningham is being held in the Davis County Jail.
He was arrested Tuesday afternoon when Layton police went to the Cunningham home at 271 Glen Place.

Entering the home shortly after 2 p.m., police found the two women dead in their beds. An investigator said they were apparently killed earlier that day, hacked to death with a small hatchet or axe.

Prosecutors said Cunningham has still declined to give a statement on the incident.
