Mother knifed 'out of control' son
A mother who attacked her "out of control" teenage son with a knife has avoided a jail sentence.
Beverley Price went to the home of her estranged husband and son, both called Paul Richards, armed with a six to seven inch steak knife, Cardiff Crown Court heard.
Paul Richards junior, described by Judge Christopher Llewellyn-Jones QC as "out-of-control", was one of a few people in Wales subject to an anti-social behaviour order, the court was told.
Jonathan Austin, prosecuting, said that the teenager and his father had answered a knock at the door of their home in Abercarn, south Wales, at about 8.15pm on June 24 this year to find Price there.
The youngster, now 15, told police his mother had "slashed" at him, leaving him with superficial wounds to an arm and a cut T-shirt. She then attacked her husband, said Mr Austin, leaving him with a scratch to his chest.
Mr Richards then pushed her out of the door, the court was told.
Price, 44, pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. She was given a two-year community rehabilitation order.
She told police that her husband had beat her when they were together and that her son had attacked her a week earlier, the court heard.
On the day of the attack, Price had drunk lager at her eight-year-old daughter's school sports day before moving on to a pub. She then recalled being in her husband's street stabbing at his car with a knife, Mr Austin said.
He said that Price, of Park Street, Cwmcarn, south Wales, had stopped taking anti-depressants just before the incident.
