Antidepressant found in body of cop who killed himself
A veteran homicide investigator who shot and killed himself at Houston police headquarters last year had an antidepressant in his system, an autopsy report said Thursday.
The Oct. 29 death of Sgt. Larry Boyd Smith, 61, was ruled a suicide by the Harris County medical examiner's office. Smith was shot one time in the left temple while alone in his work cubicle.
A toxicology report said Smith had Citalopram in his blood, liver and stomach when he died. The Physicians Desk Reference says the drug, commonly known as Celexa, is used to treat depression.
The report said soot was found on and embedded within Smith's skin near his wound, but did not state its significance, if any.
