GRANDMOTHER TAKES OWN LIFE

10:00 - 24 January 2008

A Grandmother took her own life after she was unable to cope with the loss of her husband, an inquest heard.

Ann Woods (64), of Ashby Road, Cleethorpes, died on September 20 last year at her home. She was found hanging from the staircase. The inquest, at Cleethorpes Town Hall, heard how her husband had died earlier that year.

Giving evidence, Mrs Woods' daughter Louise said: "At first, Mum was strong as that was how she would deal with things.

"We thought she was coping probably too well. But in the week before her death, we realised she wasn't coping as well as we had thought."

Mrs Woods had been to see her GP a few days before her death and had been described anti-depressants.

Coroner for North East Lincolnshire Paul Kelly said: "She was plainly suffering and having difficulty coming to terms with her husband's death."

He recorded a verdict of suicide.
