Police Beat

Among reports recently generated by local law enforcement agencies:
1. Criminal mischief/shots fired at 1930 Rich Smith Lane (Park Ridge at Conway apartments). Resident told police that there was a disturbance and what sounded like gunfire in the apartment complex parking lot at about 12:15 a.m. Friday. The resident had loaned a Lexus sedan to a cousin, and after the disturbance she found the Lexus in the parking lot with a bullet hole in the door and a broken windshield. Officers investigating the incident found drops of blood in the area of the disturbance and found a grey Cadillac in the parking lot with blood on the passenger's side door and front passenger's seat. Conway Police Department interim public information officer Sharon Carter confirmed that the blood did not come from a gunshot wound.

2. DWI/endangering the welfare of minors at 1200 block of Clifton Street. An officer observed a white Chevrolet Tahoe travelling north on the street late Saturday night fail to dim its lights as he passed. The officer initiated a traffic stop at which point the SUV pulled into a parking lot and slowly crashed into a building. When the officer made contact with the driver, who was later identified as Grace Dent, 49, 8 Susan Lane, Conway, she gave the officer a driver's license indicating that she was a 16-year-old girl named Paula, which the officer found immediately suspicious. The officer found that the woman was travelling with two children in the front passenger's seat, six children in the back seat and a glass half-full of vodka in the center console cupholder. Seven mothers were contacted and arrived at the scene to collect their children, and the eighth child, a 16-year-old girl named Paula, was collected by her brother. Dent later admitted to having been under the influence of painkillers, Prozac and other anti-depressants at the time of her crash and arrest.

3. Attempted aggravated robbery at Donaghey Avenue and Bruce Street. A 20-year-old UCA student told police that as she waited for a stoplight in the left-hand turn lane, a brown sedan pulled up next to her. The driver, an unknown black male, waved a gun and demanded money. The woman accelerated away as the light turned green and proceeded to drive to her home. When she arrived home she thought she saw the same brown sedan drive past her house, hyperventilated out of fear and passed out twice. She was treated by MEMS but refused transport to Conway Regional Medical Center.
