SSRI Stories note: Anyone with a propensity for violence should not be given an antidepressant, especially and SSRI or SNRI antidepressant, as it can cause hostility and agitation. These two side effects are listed in the Physicians Desk Reference for antidepressants.

Upper Darby woman admits cutting beau

MEDIA COURTHOUSE A 55-year-old woman admitted guilt this week to charges she stabbed her spouse with a pair of scissors last Dec. 5 that she said probably occurred because her anti-depressant medication failed to control her rage.

“Your honor, I’m sorry this ever happened,” Grace Ginder told Judge Patricia Jenkins. “I was making statements it (the medication) wasn’t working well. I was either crying or staying in the apartment. I was angry at the world. I’m sure that probably had something to do with it.”

Ginder, of the 300 block of Hampden Road, Upper Darby, pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges of simple assault and terroristic threats in the attack that occurred at the couple’s apartment.

As part of the plea ironed out by Assistant District Attorney Stephanie Wills and defense attorney Francis Redding, the defendant will serve nine to 23 months in jail to be followed by two years probation.

Bruce Reese, 48, was stabbed multiple times after Ginder grabbed a pair of scissors from a kitchen drawer during an argument. He suffered wounds to his head, shoulder, chest and arms, according to a court document.

The couple has apparently reconciled since there is no “stay away” order involving the victim. The most serious felony charge of aggravated assault was withdrawn at the district-court level before Wills became involved in the case.

Jenkins accepted the terms of the plea and formally imposed sentence.

Ginder has already completed the stipulated anger-management treatment and will undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

Ginder has a prior conviction in which she was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in a 1990 shooting and served time for that offense, according to authorities.

Police who responded to the scene of Reese’s stabbing, quoted the defendant as admitting the crime and then blurting out, “I should have killed (him).”
