A 14-year-old Palm Coast girl is accused of trying to poison her mother by mixing a cocktail with prescription medication, according to a Flagler County Sheriff's report.

No charges have been filed. Investigators are awaiting a lab analysis of the concoction.

The girl was apparently angry with her mother for telling police that she was having an affair with an adult man and possibly pregnant by him. Relatives heard the girl say her mother was going to die tonight," according to a sheriff's report released Tuesday.

Motel roof burns

DAYTONA BEACH SHORES The roof of a motel on South Atlantic Avenue caught fire Tuesday afternoon, causing about $3,000 in damage, firefighters said.

Firefighters with the Department of Public Safety were called at 5:29 p.m. about smoke coming from the roof of the Magic Carpet Motel. When they arrived at the three-story building at 2601 S. Atlantic Ave., they found roofing materials burning. The fire was contained within 30 minutes.

No injuries were reported and no damage was done to the interior of the building.

Firefighters could not determine the cause of the fire on Tuesday, but inspectors plan to investigate further today, said a department spokesman.

The roof of the motel was being replaced as a result of damage from recent storms.

Stab victim identified

DAYTONA BEACH Police have identified a man who was stabbed to death Thursday night in the woods off the 1200 block of Jimmy Ann Drive.

The body of Edward Stromberg, 47, a transient, was discovered by police in a wooded area behind Service Merchandise.

Police arrested Robert Eugene Lewis, 63, also a transient, and charged him with manslaughter in connection with Stromberg's death.

Both a passerby and security guards at the Volusia Plaza were contacted by Lewis around 6:30 p.m. He told them there was a dead man in the woods.

Police were called and Lewis was taken into custody for questioning.

According to reports, Lewis told officers Stromberg threatened to kill him, so he armed himself with a knife and stabbed him in the upper torso. Police said a knife was found near Stromberg's body.

Lewis was charged with manslaughter and remains at the Branch Jail on $10,000 bail.

Farrell suffered multiple injuries and was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Halifax Medical Center. She died at 5:55 a.m. Tuesday, police said.
