CALLAWAY The investigation into the drowning of a Callaway woman has ended and her death has been ruled a suicide, authorities said.

Shannon Evans Farooqui, 42, was found floating in Callaway Bayou in June. On Friday officials with the Bay County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the investigation was closed.

The News Herald obtained Farooqui’s autopsy report, which states the cause of death is a drowning and the manner of death a suicide. Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office noted Farooqui had no external injuries and had sent emails to friends indicating plans to commit suicide. Someone who was held down during a drowning would have injuries to their person, they added.

According to the autopsy report, her blood alcohol level was .20. She also tested positive for a number of drugs, including acetaminophen (generic Tylenol) and fluoxetine (generic Prozac, an antidepressant).

Deputies were able to identify Farooqui after her roommate came forward and said she had been missing since about 9 p.m. the previous night, when she left the Plantation Drive home to go for a walk.
