STRATFORD -- A former Kitchener-Conestoga MP was on medication for depression and talked of suicide with his housekeeper before he accelerated into a transport truck in January on a Southwestern Ontario highway, a court has heard.

The car driven by Lyndon Myers, 56, crossed over the centre line of the busy Highway 7/8 and was picking up speed when it collided with the transport truck.

There were no signs of braking at the crash scene and Myers, who was seriously injured in the incident, was not wearing a seatbelt.

Myers pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of careless driving before Justice Kathryn McKerlie.

He was originally charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle and had his licence suspended for 18 months and was fined $900.

The truck driver has been suffering from nightmares and is undergoing therapy to help him cope with the trauma.

Defence counsel Tom Brock said his client doesn't recall events before or after the crash.

Court heard Myers had told his housekeeper he was in a state of depression and that he sometimes felt like driving into a semi-truck.
