Son held for Jhansi engineer’s murder

The investigation into the murder of a PWD executive engineer in Jhansi took a bizarre twist on Tuesday when the police arrested the son of the deceased for hiring a local gangster to kill his father.

Two others have also been arrested for hatching the conspiracy.

Govind Singh Yadav was hacked to death in his house on May 31. Initially, the police had arrested a junior engineer in PWD, Deendayal Yadav, and his brother-in-law Akhilesh for killing Govind on account of business rivalry.

But today, Jhansi SSP V K Dohre said that it was Shashank, the 23-year-old son of Govind, who had hired local gangster

Ravi Rajput to eliminate his father.

The police said that during interrogation, Shashank confessed to the crime and said that he and other family members, including his mother, were fed up with his father’s indifferent attitude.

Shashank claimed that he had started taking anti-depression pills since he was eight because of his father’s erratic behaviour with everyone in the family, the police said.

Shashank told police that his father had estranged relation with his mother for last 10 years and also illicit relations with women in Jhansi, Jalaun and Lucknow.

Dohre said that in a bid to get rid of his father, Shashank gave Rs 10 lakh to gangster Ravi Rajput, Bharat Yadav, an employee at the crusher, and a contractor Shyamlal.

The police were able to zero in on Shahshank after they scanned the call details of his cellphone and found his involvement in the crime.
