Police: Woman slipped drug into man's drink at party

WHITESBORO, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Whitesboro woman is facing charges after police say she slipped a drug into a man's drink.

According to Whitesboro Patrolman Robert Maciol, Joanne Francis, 44, of Whitesboro, is charged with second-degree assault after it is alleged she placed a drug into the drink of a man whom she knew, causing him to become ill.

The man's name was not released.

Police said the incident happened at a private party over the July 4th weekend. Once the investigation was complete, police charged Francis on Wednesday, July 28.

Police said it is believed that the drug placed into the drink was Remeron, which is an anti-depressant.

Francis was arraigned in front of a Whitesboro Village Justice and released to a third party. She is due back in court on Tuesday, August 3 at 1:30 p.m.
