SINGER AND songwriter Mark Linkous has committed suicide on Saturday, as per a report from Rolling Stones, that was released late last night. Mark Linkous, cited by many as the genius behind Sparklehouse, reportedly died of an overdose.

Mark Linkous had released four albums with Sparklehorse committed and had almost completed a fifth at the time he committed suicide. The tragedy for Sparklehouse comes just a few months after another Sparklehouse musician, Vic Chestnut, killed himself.

The Linkous family released a statement, saying that, “We are thankful for his time with us and will hold him forever in our hearts. May his journey be peaceful, happy and free. There’s a heaven and there’s a star for you.”

The musician had made a bid on his life earlier too, when he had injested multiple valium and antidepressants medication. He was said to be depressed after the multiple surgeries undertaken to save his damaged legs.

Mark Linkous with Sparklehouse, brought forth albums like Good Morning Spider (1999), Its a Wonderful Life (2001) and Years in the Belly of a mountain (2006). He also produced Daniel Johnson’s Fear Yourself album in 2003.
