Police News: Snowblower among items taken in suspected thefts

Aurora -- Two thefts at separate locations were reported to police in the last couple of weeks.

A Palomino Trail man reported Jan. 8 a snowblower valued at $774 was stolen from his front patio.

On Jan. 13, a local woman reported several unspecified items were missing from her room in a location on South Chillicothe Road.

Meanwhile, two situations related to a credit card and check were reported to police.

On Jan. 10, a Chadwick Drive woman said someone charged $41.93 worth of items to her credit card without permission.

On Jan. 13, a business on South Aurora Road reported a check for $232.95 was returned with insufficient funds. Police said a demand letter was sent to the check writer and returned unclaimed.

A charge of unauthorized use of a vehicle was filed against a Mentor-on-the-Lake man after a complaint by a Parker Road man.

On Jan. 13, the local man said his van was missing and the only person who had access to it was his Mentor-on-the-Lake acquaintance.

Charges were filed after the Mentor-on-the-Lake man informed the owner the van was at the out-of-town address.

Traffic-related cases

Jan. 9 -- Mishap. An Aurora juvenile was cited for stop sign violation after police said he pulled out of the high school access road and struck an Aurora woman's vehicle on West Pioneer Trail. No injuries were reported and no damage estimate was given.

Jan. 10 -- Collision. No citations were issued after an accident in the 400 block of East Garfield Road in which a passing car driven by a Bainbridge woman and a snowplow driven by an Aurora man collided near a driveway. No injuries were reported and no damage estimate was given.

Jan. 12 -- Lot crash. Police said a Brecksville man backed into a Brunswick man's parked car in a parking lot in the 1400 block of South Chillicothe Road. No injuries were reported and no damage estimate was given.

Jan. 12 -- Signal damaged. Police said a truck hauling an oversized load damaged a traffic signal in the 900 block of North Aurora Road. The truck driver told police he was unaware he struck the light. The city's service department was notified.

Jan. 13 -- Rear-end crash. A Bay Village woman was cited for assured clear distance after police said she struck a Stow man's vehicle from behind on South Aurora Road. No injuries were reported and no damage estimate was given.

Disputes, harassment

Jan. 10 -- Argument. Police checked out a dispute between a mother and her juvenile son in the Geauga Lake area. The situation was calmed and no charges were filed.

Jan. 11 -- Father/son dispute. Police checked out a dispute between a father and his juvenile son in the northeast section of town. No charges were filed.

Jan. 14 -- Harassment. A person in the 1000 block of South Chillicothe Road reported receiving harassing phone calls from his daughter's boyfriend. The suspect was contacted by police and advised not to contact the victim again or charges would be filed.

Miscellaneous cases

Jan. 8 -- Warrant arrest. While running a license registration check at Barrington Town Square, an officer found a Mantua Township man was wanted on an unspecified warrant from Brimfield. He was turned over to officers there.

Jan. 10 -- Drug paraphernalia seized. Police seized two glass smoking pipes during a traffic stop in the 600 block of West Garfield Road. The driver was warned and released.

Jan. 11 -- Underage drinking. After receiving a report of a suspicious person running through yards in the Woods of Aurora, police followed footprints to a home and contacted its owner.

Police discovered the woman's juvenile daughter allowed a friend to visit and the person had been drinking. He was charged with underage drinking and a curfew violation, and was referred to Portage County Juvenile Court.

Jan. 11 -- Warrant arrest. An officer picked up a woman in Willoughby who was wanted on an unspecified warrant. She posted bond and was released.
