Cops: Missing Mother Dead From Apparent Suicide

Missing Woman...

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- A body that was found near railroad tracks has been confirmed to be that of 36-year-old Michelle Dubois, a mother of two who was reported missing earlier this week, the Orange County Sheriff's Office Thursday afternoon. Officials said her death appears to be the result of an apparent suicide.

"While the cause and manner of Mrs. Dubois’ death will not be released until the completion of the Orange County Medical Examiner’s report, a note and evidentiary items recovered at the scene, and the fact that there were no signs of trauma to the body or evidence of foul play indicates that she took her own life," the sheriff's office wrote in a release issued Thursday afternoon.

After days of searching, mounted Deputy Mike Kleinfelt found her body in a wooded area near Nela Avenue and Orange Avenue (see map) , by the CSX railroad tracks near the Dubois' home.

"It's just across the street," resident Steve Adams said.

But it was the view from horseback that officers said may have made the difference.

"We can see over the brush line, and a helicopter can't necessarily see through the trees," Kleinfelt explained.

The sheriff's office told WFTV reporter Melonie Holt that the body was wearing the same clothing that Michelle was reportedly wearing when she disappeared; she was last seen wearing a pink sweat shirt and light blue sweat pants.

Christopher Dubois has already begun the grieving process.

"He's going through a difficult time right now. He's extremely distraught," said attorney and a family friend Frank Scheller.

Christopher Dubois was convinced something wrong from the time he reported his wife missing on Monday. Earlier in the day, the couple had an argument. He brought their 3-year-old twins to daycare and, when he returned to their home near Belle Isle 45 minutes later, she was gone.

Deputies can't say how long Michelle was in the area frequented by the homeless, but said it fits in the time frame of her disappearance. Neighbor Carol Fowler told WFTV Michelle's family just searched the area on Wednesday.

"I'm just feeling bad for her," Fowler said.

However, for her family, the uncertainty is over. Relatives from as far away as Massachusetts flew in to help Christopher in the search for Michelle, but now they are helping him deal with the loss.

Neighbors told WFTV that Michelle suffered from bouts of depression since the birth of her twins. She was on an undisclosed medication.

The medical examiner will now determine the cause of death in this missing person-turned-death investigation.
