Paragraph three reads:  "McGinnis' attorneys are offering a defense of imparied capacity, that he was too drunk to be aware of what he told the officers during the interview. The defense was supported through the testimony of Michael Rehberg, who found four different kinds of pain killers and two anti-depressants in McGinnis' system on the date of the shooting. Rehberg offered testimony on the urine analysis he performed. He also claims McGinnis could have had a blood alcohol content of .15 at the time of the shooting."

SSRI Stories Note:  The Physicians Desk Reference states that
antidepressants can cause a craving for alcohol and alcohol abuse.  Also, the liver cannot metabolize the antidepressant and the alcohol simultaneously,  thus leading to higher levels of both alcohol and the antidepressant in the human body.

Witnesses take stand in McGinnis case
Steve Woodhouse

Knoxville In a pretrial hearing in the Steven Dean McGinnis murder case this morning, Deputy Brian Bigaouette and Division of Criminal Investigation Field Officer Don Schnitker offered testimony regarding McGinnis' level of awareness during an interview.

McGinnis is accused of shooting Robert Ohl in southern Marion County on Sept. 21, 2008. Bigaouette and Schnitker interviewed McGinnis in Des Moines, where he was apprehended by VA and Des Moines Police officers following the shooting.

McGinnis' attorneys are offering a defense of imparied capacity, that he was too drunk to be aware of what he told the officers during the interview. The defense was supported through the testimony of Michael Rehberg, who found four different kinds of pain killers and two anti-depressants in McGinnis' system on the date of the shooting. Rehberg offered testimony on the urine analysis he performed. He also claims McGinnis could have had a blood alcohol content of .15 at the time of the shooting.
