Also, withdrawal can often be more dangerous than continuing on a medication.  It is important to withdraw extremely slowly from these antidepressants, usually over a period of a year or more, under the supervision of a qualified specialist.  Withdrawal is sometimes more severe than the original symptoms or problems.

Mother charged with stabbing son

Staff Report • November 23, 2010

FERNLEY--A 40-year-old Fernley mother was arrested on charges of child abuse causing substantial bodily harm, battery with intent to kill and battery with a deadly weapon causing substantially bodily harm, after she was charged with stabbing her seven-year-old son.

Jeannine Ravenna Brandt was arraigned on Monday in the Third Judicial District Court in Yerington on those charges after deputies were dispatched to the family's 27 Primton Way home on Nov. 11 at 11 p.m. on a report that a child was being stabbed.

Once on scene, deputies confirmed a seven-year-old boy had been stabbed in the chest by his mother.

According to LCSO detectives, Brandt told law enforcement that she couldn't sleep and went into the kitchen, where she grabbed a knife. Authorities say she then went into her son's bedroom, where he was sleeping, and stabbed the young boy in the chest.

Authorities also charge that Brandt then told deputies that her son was the "Anti-Christ," and told officers she stabbed her son because God told her to do it.

Brandt's husband reportedly told officers his wife was sleepwalking when the stabbing took place.

The seven-year-old was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center, where he is expected to recover from his injuries.

The couple's two-year-old child was not harmed, but was removed from the home by Child Protective Services.

According to authorities, Brandt was prescribed anti-depressant medication, but had not been taking the medication. Brandt is being held at the Lyon County Jail on a no bail hold.
