ROGERSVILLE A Rogersville woman was arrested on the campus of Cherokee High School Wednesday morning after performing poorly on field sobriety tests.

Around 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Renee Rogers was advised of an adult at the school “acting strangely.”

Rogers is the school resource officer at CHS.

Rogers stated in her report that she met Anetta Faye Hamblen, 49, 111 Popular Drive, Rogersville, and allegedly observed her to be unsteady on her feet with slurred speech and a “thick tongue.”

“Mrs. Hamblen actually fell into a teacher when she came inside the school building,” Rogers said.

Hamblen was given three field sobriety tests, on which Rogers said she performed “poorly,” after which Hamblen allegedly admitted that she’d taken Prozac and Singulair prior to coming to the school.

A search of Hamblen’s person and purse allegedly revealed her to be in possession of an unidentified white tablet, and another tablet believed to be chlorzoxazone, a prescription muscle relaxer. Hamblen had no prescription bottle for either pill, Rogers said.

Hamblen was charged with violation of the Tennessee Drug Control Act which requires prescription medications to be stored in the correct prescription bottles as well as public intoxication.

She was released from the Hawkins County Jail Wednesday evening after five hours of incarceration.
