Alleged Child Abuser's Sister Speaks Out

SALT LAKE CITY - The parents of a 2-year-old child have been accused of significantly injuring the toddler in a case that authorities say is among the worst they have ever seen.

Authorities were called after the girl was taken to a hospital by her mother and workers noticed several injuries on her body.

According to a police document, the child received numerous cut wounds to her head and hands.  Numerous bruises were also found on her face and back.  The child's top front teeth appear to have been knocked out and her eyes swollen shut.

Derrick Crispin was arrested and booked in the Salt Lake County Jail on Jan. 9, 2008 for allegedly beating his 2-year-old daughter.
Amy Roberts, 30, and Derrick Crispin, 29, were arrested and charged with felony child abuse.  The mother was also charged with obstruction of justice.

Authorities say the story given by the parents conflicts with a doctor's opinion.  Also, after being advised of her rights the mother reportedly changed her story five times.

The toddler was listed in serious condition in intensive care at Primary Children's Medical Center.

The child's biological father lives out-of-state but has been contacted and is en route to Utah.

The case is being investigated by the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office.

Amy Roberts was arrested on Jan. 9, 2008 and charged with felony child abuse after her 2-year-old daughter was found to have extensive injuries.

Now, Derrick Crispin’s sister, Lacy Sanders has given more information about the alleged child abusers, Derrick Crispin and Amy Roberts.

Sanders says that lately she has noticed a change in Derrick's behavior. She says that he has been taking pain medication and anti-depressants that have caused him to exhibit new erratic behavior.

She also says that approximately ten years ago, Derrick was accused of abusing his ex-girlfriend’s 2-year-old son.

Sanders was very shocked to hear that Amy was involved because she claims that Amy works with “troubled kids” and “teens that have suffered from abuse” for a living.

With tears streaming down her face, Sanders said that if her brother did this; "he will have to pay the price."
