A DEPRESSED man who threatened police with knives cut himself after hearing his partner had aborted their child.
Lee David Davies, 35, of Frobisher Road, Neston, escaped with a conditional discharge for affray after wielding a meat cleaver and a chef’s knife.
On October 10 last year police were called to the house amid concerns Davies was harming himself.
On Friday, January 22, prosecutor Rob Youds told Chester, Ellesmere Port and Neston Magistrates Court what happened when police arrived.
He said: “He was threatening officers saying ‘no-one’s coming in here’.
“An officer drew his tazer and the defendant closed the door.
“Prior to closing the door the defendant could be seen having multiple lacerations to both forearms which were bleeding.”
When police became aware Davies’s brother was in the flat with him. They were concerned he was being held against his will.
Mr Youds added: “The defendant shouted ‘the first one through the door is going to get it’.”
Two hours passed before Davies finally opened the door and was taken into custody.
Howard Jones, defending, said Davies had got into a seven-month relationship with one of his neighbours.
He added: “They were due to have a child. Mr Davies was extremely pleased about that. Mr Davies told most of his family he was to be a dad again. One day he returned home and his partner was not there. It became apparent she had terminated the pregnancy.”
Davies already suffered from depression and had changed his medication shortly before the drama unfolded.
He was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 costs.
