Dental nurse is suspended after affair with boss

11:32am Friday 26th November 2010

A DENTAL nurse who sold the story of her nine-year affair with her boss to a weekly magazine has been suspended for two months.

Married mother-of-two Paula Jackson romped with Tariq Drabu in the dentist’s chair and met up for regular sex sessions in hotel rooms.

The 46-year-old freely discussed her sex life in front of a sedated female patient and asked her how many men she had slept with.

Mrs Jackson also allowed married Drabu to grope her in front of a patient.

Mr Drabu, aged 45, received a four-month ban from practising in July last year over his “sexual activities” with Mrs Jackson at his practice in Middleton.

He had ended the affair with Mrs Jackson when his wife found out and the dental nurse took her former lover to an employment tribunal.

This week the General Dental Council considered Mrs Jackson’s behaviour, and the panel has ruled it was “profoundly unacceptable” and brought the profession into disrepute.

Panel chairman Helen Potts said the article had the “tendency to undermine public confidence in the dental profession”.

She said: “The information in the article had already been published in the local and national press after the employment tribunal hearing.

“While the article in Closer repeated the information it was based on the exclusive interview which you provided.”

Mrs Potts said allowing Closer magazine to publish the article amounted to misconduct.

In reaching its decision, Mrs Potts said the committee had taken into account the shame and regret expressed by Mrs Jackson.

The panel also accepted she was unlikely to repeat her misdemeanours, but felt it would “not be appropriate” to take no action.

Mrs Potts said: “It has concluded that it would be proportionate to impose a short suspension upon your registration to reflect the damage to the reputation of the profession.

“The committee has decided to suspend your registration for a period of two months.”

The dental nurse admitted a string of allegations, but denied she had brought the profession into disrepute.

She told the hearing that the media interest in her employment tribunal pushed her into signing a contract to sell the story in the hope the newspapers would leave her alone.

She said: “I was a mess. I was on anti-depressants, which I’m still on now.

“It was really hard for me. I was so embarrassed.”

Mrs Jackson, who was accompanied by her husband Malcolm during the hearing, is now employed by the Horwich Dental Care Centre, in Chorley New Road.
