Pharmacist sentenced to community control

Former Wal-Mart pharmacist Charles T. Hodapp will spend 30 days in the county jail and must pay $400 to the store's pharmacy in restitution after stealing several types of prescription drugs.

Hodapp was sentenced Monday in Fayette County Common Pleas Court, where he also received a two-year community control sentence following his release from jail. He pleaded guilty to five counts of theft of drugs, fourth-degree felonies, in November.

Hodapp admitted to taking Alprazolam, Effexor (also known as Xanax), Viagra, Diazepam (also known as Valium) and Lorazepam (a drug designed to treat anxiety disorders), drugs that were not prescribed to him, from the Wal-Mart Pharmacy in Washington C.H. without consent.

The crimes took place from May 1 to Oct. 21, 2008, according to the grand jury indictment.

According to reports, other employees at the Wal-Mart SuperCenter were witnesses to bizarre behavior from Hodapp, including angry displays. Hodapp admitted to "being high" at work from the drugs he stole, authorities said.

The store's security cameras also caught him taking some of the medication, reports said.

Hodapp, who was fired from Wal-Mart on Oct. 22, 2008, said he took the drugs because of his depression and high levels of stress. He reportedly took hundreds of pills from the pharmacy.
