Barmaid took her own life – coroner
By Will Kilner

A 22-year-old barmaid with psychiatric problems took her own life, an inquest heard.

Colleen Casey, of Springfield Avenue, Shipley, was found hanging in an upstairs room at her home.

Her partner, Selma Bham, made the grim discovery, cut her down from the roof and called an ambulance.

Miss Casey was partly resuscitated but never regained consciousness and died at Bradford Royal Infirmary on January 24, 2008.

She did not leave a suicide note, but Bradford coroner Roger Whittaker concluded that she had intended to take her own life.

Bradford Coroners Court heard how Miss Casey suffered from a borderline personality disorder, saw a private therapist and was prescribed anti-depressants and sleeping pills.

In a statement read out in court, Miss Bham said that Miss Casey, her partner of 18 months, had taken drugs for a long time, possibly since she was 14.

Miss Casey had started a new job at Lloyds bar, in Shipley, shortly before the incident and had previously worked as a carer for her grandmother.
