Damien Farrell was aged 26 when he died on December 4. On August 9 an inquest into his death was held at Flax Bourton Coroners Court.

The court heard how the Fitzharding Road resident was found dead at the Premier Inn hotel at Cribbs Causeway by a housekeeper.

The business analyst, who worked for Wessex Water, had checked into a room on December 3 and his body was found the next day after he suffocated himself with helium.

A statement from Damien’s brother, Adam, revealed Damien, who grew up in Clevedon, had made a number of attempts to end his life in the year before his death.

He had been given antidepressants, had a number of assessments carried out and had also been briefly sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

After two weeks of being cared for by his mum, on December 3 he told her he was going out.

He called his former girlfriend, Amy Bird, to say he was sorry before turning his phone off. He was reported missing to the police and was dead found the next day.

During the hearing, the cause of death was confirmed as asphyxia and Coronor Maria Voisin recorded a verdict of suicide.
