'Fun-loving' father found dead in lake

THE Plymouth family of a man found dead in a lake have paid tribute to a "fun-loving and helpful father" and said they'll "never know the answers to his death."

Father-of-two and twin-brother Zowie Tobin who grew up in the city, was found dead in Wiltshire, after police appealed for help when he went missing this week.

His mother Carol Tobin, said she was devastated and shocked by the news of her 23-year-old son's death.

She said: "We are in shock, we'll never know the answers to his death."

She said: "He was fun-loving and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for him, he'd help anybody. Our neighbours have always said how well behaved he was."

His sister, Sherrie Parmenter from Plymouth, wrote on The Herald website: "So sorry we didn't find you sooner Zowie R.I.P brother we love and will always hold you in our hearts."

Carol said the last time she saw her son was on Saturday when he came in and got a drink from the fridge before giving her a kiss on the cheek.

"I asked him if he was OK", she said, "But he said he was fine."

She contacted the police when she found out her son was missing on Monday afternoon.

Zowie leaves behind a nine-month-old daughter, Courtney, and a son, Liam, who will be three later this month.

He had both children with his partner Samantha Cowdrey, 21, who said he was "the perfect dad."

She said: "Me and the kids love him and we miss him.

"He was the perfect dad. He was a brilliant, caring person.

"He never put himself first, he put everyone else first."

Samantha, who lived with Zowie, said that he loved fishing and also enjoyed restoring motorbikes.

Samantha's brother, Hayden Lee, said he had often gone fishing with Zowie to the very spot where he died. He said: "We all miss him."

Samantha's mother, Elle Weller, added: "He was the best son-in-law anyone could wish for."

Samantha contacted The Herald earlier this week, asking for assistance in helping to find Zowie.

She said: "I am contacting you in the hope that you can help me.

"My partner went missing on Saturday at 11am and hasn't been seen since. This is completely out of character for him."

Samantha said Zowie grew up in Plymouth and still had many friends here. She thought he might have returned to the city after his disappearance.

Wiltshire police, who recovered the body, believe it to be Zowie after it was found by a member of the public at around 6pm on Wednesday at Dilton Marsh, Westbury.

Zowie is also survived by sister Sherrie and brothers Darren and Luke, his twin.

Carol said Luke was "devastated" at the death of his "other half" and had collapsed with grief.

His brother-in-law, Gerald Parmenter, said: "It is such a waste of life. We should have been looking forward to his life ahead, not ending it."

Zowie grew up in the Plymouth area living in Kings Tamerton, Honicknowle and Keyham and attended Tamarside College. He moved from Plymouth to Wiltshire to live with his mum, who suffered health problems, four years ago.

Before he left he had been training to become a window glazier with Apple Windows, his mother said.

In Wiltshire, Zowie had worked in a number of roles through a recruitment agency.

He was a keen fisherman, loved football with Liverpool being his favourite team and enjoyed "messing about with golf clubs".

Gerald added: "He was well-loved and will be well-missed."

Police said a post mortem is currently being arranged and there will be an inquest into his death.
