SCHIZO SON SMOTHERS HIS MOM IN QNS.: COPS

By LORENA MONGELLI and MURRAY WEISS

October 29, 2002 -- A mentally ill Queens man who believed that his mother was out to poison him suffocated her yesterday, police sources said. After killing his mom, Robert Jean-Lord, 24, then took a kitchen knife and stabbed himself twice in the chest in a failed suicide attempt, cops said.

Cops who arrived at the one-family home at 92-35 216th St. in Queens Village, where Marie Jean-Lord, 52, was slain, took her son to Mary Immaculate Hospital for evaluation. He was reported in stable condition.

He suffered from schizophrenia, police sources said. But some neighbors, and the troubled man's aunt, said he suffered from depression - and had not been the same since his father died in 1997.

"They were a very nice, quiet family," said neighbor Gladys Marroquin. "I've never seen any fights there." "Except for one time last summer when the cops came,"

Marroquin added. "Bobby tried to kill himself. They stunned him with drugs and took him to the hospital. He's on medication for depression."

The victim's sister, Marie Souffrant-Santiago, said her nephew finished college, but suffered from depression since his dad's death. "He doesn't eat. All he does is stay in the house all day," she said, noting that her sister "wanted to put him in a psychiatric ward, but he was of age" and did not consent.
