STATE: Telemarketer tip sends cops to home

A 55-year-old Commerce Township woman got a visit from Oakland County sheriff's deputies last Thursday evening after a remark she reportedly said in jest to a telemarketer.

According to reports, deputies were alerted after the woman told a telemarketer selling windows that she was going to commit suicide. She said she didn't need new windows where she was going, and when the telemarketer asked where she was going, she reportedly said she was going to kill herself.

When deputies checked on the woman at her Hoeft Drive home, she said her suicide threat was not serious and she was just trying to deter the telemarketer. She also said she was upset because the telemarketer had awakened her, but admitted she shouldn't have made the comment, deputies said.

The woman also said she was taking anti-depressants, according to reports.
Deputies asked the woman's neighbor to stay with her until her husband returned home from work.
