A MAN accused of possessing bomb-making equipment bought online was taking an anti-depressant medication daily and might harm himself in custody, his lawyer told Melbourne Magistrates' Court.

Phillip John Marsh, 35, of Castlemaine, was arrested on Tuesday and remanded over possession of chemicals and other goods he allegedly bought on eBay. His lawyer told Melbourne Magistrate's Court he might harm himself in custody.

He maintained the materials were meant for making firecrackers.

He appeared in Melbourne Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Mr Marsh's lawyer, Zubin Menon, did not apply for bail and requested Mr Marsh see a doctor and a note be made about his mental health.
