Sunday, 28 November 2010 21:00 AN elderly lady has been murdered by her husband, who attempted suicide after slitting her throat, say emergency services.

It was one of the couple's daughters who made the grisly discovery at their home in the Villaverde district of Madrid at 18.45hrs on Sunday.

Paramedics rushed to the scene, but were unable to save Rosalia N.F., 77, who had perished from her injuries.

Her husband, Casimiro R.R., 79, was rushed to hospital after having stabbed himself in the belly.

He is thought to have been taking medication for depression at the time of the homicide, which may have affected his judgment.

Police say in the city was no previous record of any violence to and from the couple.

All over the country this weekend, hundreds of people in each and every municipality and village demonstrated publicly against home violence.
