Wilson Drive resident had been missing since Monday night

XENIA TWP. A five-hour search for a Xenia Twp. man reported missing since Monday night ended grimly about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Greg E. Carlson, 42, of 671 Wilson Dr., was found dead by a group of hand-to-hand searchers combing part of a 15-acre wooded area east of Carlson’s home, west of Stevenson Road and north of U.S. Route 42, said Maj. Eric Prindle of the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.

Other than to say no weapon was found at the scene, Prindle did not comment on the condition of Carlson’s body or possible cause of death, referring questions to the Greene County Coroner’s Office, which began its investigation Wednesday evening. Because the body was found within the city of Xenia, the Xenia Police Division will also investigate the death.

More than 50 rescue workers and volunteers, including three K-9 units and horse-mounted volunteers, searched Wednesday afternoon for Carlson, who left his house on foot about 9 p.m. Monday to take the family dog for a walk and was not seen since, Prindle said. The dog had since returned to the house.

The Xenia Twp. Fire department directed personnel from the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and several local township and municipal fire and police departments in their search.

Carlson, who stood six feet three inches tall and weighed about 235 pounds, was last seen wearing light blue shorts, a red Ohio State long-sleeve sweatshirt and a matching red baseball cap.

Carlson did not have any identification, money, or other means of transportation with him, Prindle said. But Carlson did have a health condition that may have affected his behavior.

“He suffers from some depression, and is on some medication that has caused him to act irrationally,” Prindle said during the search.

Carlson’s family reported him missing after he did not show up for work Tuesday, Prindle said, adding that Carlson works for the Ohio Department of Health in Dayton and that he had a disciplinary hearing scheduled Tuesday.

Prindle said Carlson went missing on one previous occasion and was found in a disoriented state at WGC Golf Course.

“I feel sad for the family,” said Prindle. “This is tragic for them to have to accept.”
