PRESTON: DRUG RAGES RUINED MY MARRIAGE TO CHANTELLE

14th September 2010

By Ross Kaniuk

BIG Brother star Preston last night revealed how drugs wrecked his fairytale marriage to Chantelle Houghton.

The singer says he was so hooked on pills it turned him into a raging lunatic.

He would regularly wake up bleeding on his bathroom floor with no idea how he got there.

Preston, 28, also smashed up hotel rooms in a haze of pills, ranging from Prozac to sleeping pills – downed with a cocktail of booze.

His shocking confessions come just a day after we revealed that Chantelle Houghton, 27, and Preston enjoyed a 24-hour love-in after reuniting in the Ultimate Big Brother house.

Speaking of Chantelle, he said: “I am sure the numbness is to blame for some of the more bizarre decisions that I have made in my life.

“I certainly wouldn’t have agreed to do Big Brother or left university to pursue music.

“Or, I hate to say it, but I wonder if I would have got married to a near stranger however smitten we thought we were.

“Sleeping pills and anti- depressants destroyed relationships, sent my life in uncomfortable directions.”

The musician has suffered insomnia since his teenage years, and his slide began with sleeping pills and the anti-depressant Prozac.

He added: “An addiction is infuriating in that it won’t listen to reason, no matter how many times I woke up in pools of blood on the bathroom floor, having not made it to bed.

“The embarrassment of having to explain to the doctor, as he stitched up the tears in my skin, that I didn’t remember anything.

“Still my hand reached for those pills every night. The sleeping pill I would take was called Zolpidem and I would take up to 70mg a night. People overdose on less.”

But Preston says he is now clean, happy, and ready for love again after first meeting Chantelle on Celebrity BB.

The couple married, his band the Ordinary Boys did well.
But within two years the marriage ended and the Ordinary Boys broke up.
