Woman pleas guilty in killing at NJ boarding home
The Associated Press
WOODBURY, N.J. - A 39-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter in the strangling death of a fellow resident of a Gloucester County boarding home.
Prosecutors will recommend that Sharon Maslanka of Philadelphia be sentenced to 12 years in prison when she is sentenced in January.
Authorities say Maslanka killed 49-year-old Jack Trachtenberg after the two got into a dispute at the Shady Oaks Rest Home in National Park on Dec. 27, 2006.
The confrontation occurred one week after Maslanka was released from Ancora State Hospital in Winslow, a facility for patients with mental illness.
At Friday's plea hearing, Maslanka told the judge that she is taking medication for bipolar disorder and depression.
