The young Penacook man who shot and killed his wife before killing himself earlier this year was terrified of losing her and had threatened suicide if she left him, the state attorney general�s office said this morning.
Witnesses told investigators that Matthew and Sarah Balch, who had been married for one year, had a �tumultuous" relationship, and their arguments escalated a week before their deaths on June 14, according to a report released this morning by the attorney general. In the days before the murder-suicide, Sarah Balch, who was 25, had told her 22-year-old husband she wanted a divorce, a friend of Sarah Balch's told the attorney general's office.
On June 13, Sarah Balch went out with friends, ignoring her husband's phone calls, according to the report. She came home early the next morning, and several hours later, Matthew Balch shot and killed her in the driveway of the couple�s home at 230 Elm St. After hugging and kissing his daughter and mother, he shot himself in the neck.
