OCALA - Sheriff's officials say they have arrested a 47-year-old woman who used the flat part of a Katana sword to hit her 14-year-old son on the forehead and then slapped him several times with her hand following an argument.

Jennifer Lyn Crossin, of northwest Marion County, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with aggravated child abuse, according to a Sheriff's Office report.

The teenager told deputies he was at home with Crossin, his mother, when he told her he wanted to live with his father. He said she got angry and followed him to his bedroom.

In the bedroom, he said, she grabbed the sword, which is about a foot and a half long, from a display rack on the wall, and struck him once in the forehead with the flat portion. In an attempt to get the sword from his mother, the boy said he received a cut on his right hand.

Then, he said, his mother began slapping him. He went to a neighbor's home and called 911.

When deputies arrived, officials said it appeared she was under the influence of medication or drugs. Crossin told authorities she was taking several medications for medical reasons and depression.

Crossin said her son swung the sword at her. She was arrested and transported to the Marion County Jail.
