A FLINTSHIRE telephone engineer took his own life at work because he couldn’t face changing his job, an inquest heard.
David Lloyd Smith, 47, was found hanged at a BT building in Chester at 5.45am on December 3, 2009, by a colleague.
The inquest was conducted by coroner Nicholas Rheinberg yesterday.
He heard Mr Smith, of Victoria Road, Saltney, worked for BT for 30 years, since he left school at 16.
His life revolved around his job but a drop in his team’s workload had led to him and others being transferred to a transitional department in June 2009 so they could be assigned other roles within the company.
He became anxious and depressed and turned to alcohol.
He was described by his GP, his wife and the mental health specialists who treated him as having a burning anger toward his employer for his new work description after he had worked for the same company for so long.
This led to arguments with his wife, Suzanne, who he would leave at home most evenings with their children while he drank in a local pub.
