Royal family member who shot himself was being treated for depression: cops

Ganaditya Jadeja (65), a member of the royal family of Gondal in Gujarat who allegedly shot himself at his sprawling house in Worli on Wednesday morning, was depressed for the past few weeks, said police. Meanwhile, an old land dispute case against him in Gujarat had come up for hearing in a local court.

The Worli police who have registered a case of accidental death said that statements of Jadeja’s relatives indicate he was depressed and had been on medication for the same.

“Jadeja lived in the Worli Seaface flat with his companion Rinku Samuel, her sister and nephew and two servants. His brother Maharaja Jyotendranath (70) stays at Gondal but resides in a rented flat near the Mantralaya whenever he visits the city. We recorded their statements on Wednesday. Samuel said that Jadeja had been in a pensive mood for the past several days and had mentioned about a court case hearing coming up against him in a property dispute. Jyotendranath has said that he met Jadeja when the latter visited Gondal last week and sensed that he was depressed,” said senior police inspector Bharat Worlikar of the Worli police station.

“Samuel in her statement had said that a fortnight back she had accompanied Jadeja to Gujarat but nothing happened during the trip that could have triggered it off. She also revealed that a month ago Jadeja had been admitted to the Jaslok Hospital for a week,” he added.

Jadeja was also reportedly suffering from stomach cancer but had battled it successfully, said officials.
