Suicide verdict in Towsend caretaker inquest
By Stephen Bailey

THE caretaker who hanged himself with a climbing rope in Townsend school's gym was worried about its closure, but also had other anxieties, an inquest has heard.

Gordon Briggs was found dead on March 29 at the Bournemouth school, which was shut by the council on Tuesday.

An inquest held on Wednesday heard he would wake in the night anxious about his job, but was also depressed by his father's death, his mother's ill health, and insomnia.

His sister also told the inquest his personality had changed after he started a new anti-depressant.

Doctors told the hearing the drug was the one recommended by guidelines. Coroner Sheriff Payne recorded a verdict of suicide.
