XENIA A 51-year-old Beavercreek woman on Tuesday changed her plea to guilty after she admitted she burned down her $400,000 home because her attorney said it reminded her of where her son committed suicide.

In the Greene County Court of Common Pleas, Nancy F. Skinner reached a deal with prosecutors for community control with mental health treatment and more than $15,000 in restitution to local and state fire agencies in exchanged for a guilty plea to attempted aggravated arson, a third-degree felony. The state dismissed another arson count.

The maximum sentence for the crime could be five years in prison, a $10,000 fine or both. Judge Stephen A. Wolaver does not have to accept the plea deal. Sentencing is May 26.

Skinner told the judge she was on several anti-depression and mood-stabilizing drugs. Her attorney, John Rion, said she has been battling depression since her son’s suicide. “I think in the back of her mind, she could get some relief if she did away with (the house),” Rion said.
