Manassas woman suffered fractured skull, broken neck

A woman found dead in her Manassas home earlier this month had a fractured skull and a broken neck, according to a search warrant affidavit.

According to the affidavit filed in Prince William Circuit Court, 53-year-old Diana Bibb was first found unresponsive at her house in the 8600 block of Liberty Trail on May 4.

Her son described her that night as “out of it,“ the affidavit said.

Bibb’s husband monitored her through the night and called 911 about 4 a.m. on May 5, when she was stopped breathing, the affidavit states.

When rescue crews arrived, police said they found Bibb unresponsive in her bedroom. She was taken to Prince William Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Manassas police spokesman Sgt. Tim Neumann said Bibb’s broken neck and fractured skull were not discovered until her body was taken to the state medical examiner’s office.

Neumann did not say why or for how long Bibb’s husband monitored her before calling for help.

Affidavit alsostate that Bibb’s husband has been uncooperative with police during their investigation.

Police are also looking into the couple’s financial records to find a possible motive for her death, court records state.

The case remains classified as a suspicious death, and no suspects have been identified, Neumann said.

Neumann also could not say how or why Bibb’s husband has been uncooperative, but said he remains in Manassas at the reach of investigators.

Police seized two notes written by Bibb and her husband, as well as several medicine bottles and various clothing items and other items from the house.

It is unclear what was written on the notes.

According to the affidavit, Bibb “has a past of history of being depressed and abusing medication.“

A woman who identified herself as Bibb’s sister, Susan Cerpede of Fredericksburg, told the News & Messenger earlier this month she was unaware of her sister regularly taking any type of medication.

Neighbors in the Liberty Grove retirement community described the Bibbs as quiet and said they were often absent from community events.

They moved to the neighborhood near Old Town Manassas and allowed their 26-year-old son to remain living their house on the outskirts of Manassas.

Bibb worked as a software engineer and was noted as always being an overachiever by her friends.

”She put her whole self in every effort, whether at home or work, she was a professional in every aspect of her life. She always had a charming persona, a glimmer in her eyes and a warm sincere smile,” stated family friend Gary L. Carter, in an e-mail.

Her candle burned out too soon, stated Carter.
