By News Sentinel staff

Knoxville police are trying to locate the next of kin of a man who was struck and killed while lying on CSX railroad tracks.

CSX called 911 about 10:49 p.m. Wednesday to report that one of its trains had struck someone on the tracks near Edington Road in South Knoxville.

The conductor told police that he noticed an animal or someone lying on the tracks and sounded his horn.

A man turned his head and looked at the locomotive but did not move, the conductor said. He said he attempted to stop the train but could not.

The 44-year-old man appeared to be homeless, and police found a bottle of antidepressants near the tracks, Knoxville Police Department spokesman Darrell DeBusk said today.
