FINANCIAL concerns drove a Chatteris businessman to kill himself, an inquest heard last week.
Michael Kirby, 56, of The Jetty, Chatteris hung himself in the shed in his garden and was found dead on March 17.
Mr Kirby ran a roofing business with his son Paul and had told his sister Debra Bright that he had been considering suicide.
At the inquest at Fenland Coroner's Court on Friday, Ms Bright said: "Michael had told me that the business was in financial difficulties and he had been in a state of depression.
"He had borrowed money from the bank using family collateral. He was very worried about the situation and had lost some weight.
"I asked him to be honest about the situation and to tell me how much he owed. He told me everything. He said that he had been out of work and didn't know how he was going to pay all of the money owed back.
"When I visited him at his home at the beginning of March he said he'd considered suicide.
"I referred him to the mental health service at Doddington Hospital and he was referred to a psychiatrist at Hinchingbrooke Hospital. He seemed better at that stage.
"I tried calling him on March 16 and got no reply so assumed he was asleep. The next day I learned that he'd died.
"Initially I didn't think I had done enough but I know believe there in no more that I could have done."
