OGDEN A man found naked from the waist down after police say he backed over and killed an Ogden man Monday has a history of making unwanted sexual advances, according to court records.
Daniel Bradshaw, 45, was charged Tuesday in Weber County's 2nd District Court with automobile homicide, a second-degree felony; DUI, a third-degree felony; and several misdemeanors of driving on a denied license, being an alcohol-restricted driver, lewdness and having an open container in his vehicle.
About 3:40 p.m. Monday, investigators believe Bradshaw backed over Brent Bodily in front of Bodily's home and dragged him 14 feet. Bradshaw was initially sitting in his vehicle in another driveway when his 1991 GMC Jimmy backed down the driveway, according to the charges. While traveling backwards, police say the truck struck a retaining wall made of railroad ties.
"It appears as if the victim arrived home and began to move his garbage can," the charges state. "As the GMC was traveling down the driveway, it struck the victim and the garbage can."
When officers arrived at the scene, they found Bradshaw inside his vehicle which was still in gear with the engine running naked from the waist down and touching himself. Bodily was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers said Bradshaw "was acting very erratic when officers approached him," according to the charges. "His demeanor changed several times, very rapidly going from very excited, to confused, to dazed, to agitated, to nearly passed out. This pattern repeated itself several times."
While being interviewed at the police station, Bradshaw told detectives "he did not mean to hit the guy as he was backing down the driveway."
Based on his demeanor and appearance, one detective suspected Bradshaw might have been under the influence of methamphetamine or another drug at the time, the charges state.
Bradshaw was booked into the Weber County Jail. Investigators have not said what, if any, connection Bradshaw had with Bodily.
Suspect's criminal history
Bradshaw has an extensive criminal history, according to Utah court records, including several convictions for DUI, theft, drug possession, assault on a police officer and criminal mischief.
In 2006, the Utah Highway Patrol was called to a rest stop on I-80 in Summit County on a report of a man "making sexual advances at other males and walking around naked around the rest area," according to court records.
When the trooper spotted Bradshaw, he was "wearing a woman's brassiere and a pair of pants that were not fastened properly," court documents state.
Two truck drivers told investigators he made advances at them. When a trooper approached Bradshaw, he immediately noticed a strong odor of alcohol, slurred speech and "a large quantity of drool coming out of his mouth." A test later would show Bradshaw's blood-alcohol content was .154, nearly twice the legal limit.
In the original charges, Bradshaw was charged with forcible sex abuse and two counts of lewdness. The charges were later amended to just DUI, which he pleaded guilty to, according to court records.
He was sentenced to up to five years in the Utah State Prison and ordered to undergo a psychosexual evaluation.
Bradshaw spent his first time in the Utah State Prison in 2005. He was paroled and returned for various violations and new charges three times before being discharged in May of 2009. He was placed on probation for felony criminal mischief in November of 2010.
In another case, Bradshaw is scheduled to go to trial in Utah County's 4th District Court on May 16 on charges of felony DUI, felony drug possession, misdemeanor open container in a vehicle and misdemeanor speeding.
