NEW YORK -- A mother faces an attempted murder charge for allegedly trying to beat her seriously ill 13-year-old daughter to death with a hammer. The mother then tried to overdose on medication for depression. ''She just flipped,'' the woman's husband, Anthony Edwards, told New York Newsday in a story published yesterday. ''It was the pressure.'' Mary Edwards, 36, was unconscious and in critical condition yesterday at Brookdale Hospital. Her daughter, Anthonia, had been listed in stable condit ion with a head injury.
