Summary:

Paragraph six reads:  "Anthony Shimmin, defending, said Kay had taken medication for depression and been drinking but has tried to make amends by sending flowers as an apology."

SSRI Stories Note:  The Physicians Desk Reference states that antidepressants can cause a craving for alcohol and can cause alcohol abuse. Also, the liver cannot metabolize the antidepressant and the alcohol simultaneously, thus leading to higher levels of both alcohol and the antidepressant in the human body.

Man broke into his ex-partner’s home

2:10pm Wednesday 9th June 2010

A DRUNKEN man kicked his way into his estranged partner’s house and ran upstairs to give his daughter a kiss before fleeing.

Bolton Magistrates Court heard how Alan Kay had phoned his former partner Lorraine Morris at 2.30am wanting to come and see her at her home in Duncombe Road, Great Lever.

Alan Bakker, prosecuting, said he appeared drunk, so she refused and ignored the phone when he repeatedly rang back, only to see him pull up outside her home in a taxi just before 3am.

Kay picked up one of his twin daughter’s trikes and tried to break in through the patio window and kicked in the front door, running upstairs to give one of his daughters a kiss before running off.

In a statement, Ms Morris said she had been “totally petrified” by his behaviour.

Anthony Shimmin, defending, said Kay had taken medication for depression and been drinking but has tried to make amends by sending flowers as an apology.

Kay, aged 47, of Brownlow Way, Bolton, pleaded guilty to using violence to gain entry to premises.

Sentencing was adjourned until June 28 so that pre-sentence reports could be prepared.
